reference creatortrack tiktok oauth consent required 20260715T162647
CreatorTrack's social integrations layer (app.creatortrack.ai/<workspace>/social) connects YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Meta (Instagram/Facebook) uses a Business Manager system-user token that is pre-authorized at creation time, so no per-account OAuth click is needed to read a managed page's data. TikTok has no equivalent: reading any account's videos/stats requires that account's owner to click Connect and authorize on TikTok's actual consent screen, even when testing your own account in sandbox mode. App credentials (client key/secret) only authorize the app to request scopes; they don't grant a user access token.
Why: caused confusion mid-session, Justin had pasted TikTok app credentials and asked why a fifth token/step was still needed, since Meta's setup felt like credentials alone were sufficient.
How to apply: when scoping future TikTok (or any non-Meta) social integration work for CreatorTrack, budget a mandatory manual OAuth-consent step per account and don't assume Meta's system-token pattern generalizes to other platforms.
