Links vs Linktree vs Beacons: Parity Report (2026-07-11)¶
Bottom line: Justin's Links v2 already matches or beats both incumbents on page design depth (group layouts, textures, effects, per-link bubbles) and on owned-data analytics. The real gaps cluster in three money-path areas: (1) email-growth mechanics (lead magnet delivery, gate-to-unlock, auto-DM), (2) traffic intelligence (pixels, UTM auto-tagging, geo/device analytics, SEO/OG controls), and (3) content blocks that keep visitors on-page (video/music embeds, FAQ, social proof). Monetization blocks (digital products, courses, tips) are where Beacons is far ahead, but they matter less for a fishing/outdoor affiliate + email strategy than the growth mechanics do. Cheapest high-value wins: pixel injection, OG/SEO fields, lead magnet auto-delivery, UTM auto-tagging, and geo/device analytics from request.cf (all small edge Worker or Mautic wiring changes).
1. Feature Inventory¶
Linktree (Free $0 / Starter $8 / Pro $15 / Premium $35, 2026 pricing)¶
Pricing and tiering per Linktree pricing and Linkero's 2026 comparison. Free carries a 12% commerce fee, Starter/Pro 9%, Premium 0% (QR-Verse breakdown, talkspresso).
Link/block types. Two kinds: classic links and 30+ embedded "Link Apps" (visitor watches a video, streams a podcast, fills a form, or books an appointment without leaving the page) per Adding links, what's possible? and the Marketplace. Coverage includes: video embeds (YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Vimeo, Facebook), Music Links that auto-find a release across 16 streaming services with 70+ supported total (music release notes), podcasts, forms (Typeform), contests (Gleam.io), Cameo, Reddit, contact forms, PDFs, headers, an FAQ link app, and link labels / sensitive-content labels.
Per-link controls. Schedule links (go live / expire automatically), thumbnails, featured layouts (hero/grid emphasis), Spotlight plus animated prioritization (wobble etc.), lock/gate links, and a beta personalize a link per visitor.
Customization. Themes plus custom color palettes, logo, full-screen visuals, background images / videos / solid colors, font + button color + text style controls, button shapes and layouts (paid features overview). Pricing per Beacons pricing and KHABY breakdown. Free plan charges 9% on sales; 0% seller fees and 100% affiliate commission retention arrive at Creator Plus/Max tiers.
Blocks. Fully block-based micro-website: links block with multiple layouts/headlines/descriptions (Links Block), text block, store block, image/GIF/video blocks, carousels, music block (Spotify, Bandcamp, YouTube Music, SoundCloud), Tours + Events (Bandsintown/Seated), Email & SMS contact form, lead magnet (capture then auto-send a file to the subscriber), Follower Counts block (IG/TikTok/YouTube/Twitch social proof), Substack, Zapier webhook on capture, integrations/embed blocks, custom HTML, multi-tab pages on Creator (help category, Linkero).
Customization. Design panel with template theme + header styles, social icons, appearance themes (plus a "rainbow" fully-custom option), page background, block-level styles, 1024+ fonts, page pop-up, page navigation settings (Design your Page). Reviewers note it is flexible but structured; you cannot escape the block system (taap.bio guide).
Monetization. The differentiator. Free plan includes: digital product store (ebooks, guides, music, templates, courses) with Stripe/PayPal payout, paid memberships, tipping, an affiliate network of 12,000+ brands with in-page product linking and per-sale commissions, AI media kit auto-built from connected social stats, brand-deal invoicing, and AI brand outreach (pricing FAQ, Linkero). Max adds BNPL checkout, unlimited courses with video hosting, unlimited memberships, and an NFC card.
Email marketing. Built-in sending, not just capture: 250 sends/month free, 500 on Creator, unlimited with segmentation on Creator Plus (Linkero). Caveat: the email tool is Beacons' most complained-about feature (send suspensions after CSV imports, multi-week support queues; Trustpilot 3.3/5).
Growth/AI. Daily AI credits (300/day on Creator, unlimited on Max) powering layout suggestions, media kit content, store optimization; Smart Reply Instagram auto-DM; Google Analytics integration plus advanced SEO on Creator; free custom domain on Creator including custom-domain product URLs; income dashboard consolidating revenue streams; iOS/Android app (Google Play); Beacons 2.0 AI positioning.
2. Design Teardown: Why Their Editors Feel Good (and Bad)¶
- Linktree: speed to first page. Onboarding is username, template pick, paste 3 links, done in minutes. The admin is a two-pane layout: editable link list on the left, live phone preview pinned right. Every link row carries inline toggles (visibility, schedule, spotlight, thumbnail) so per-link power features are discoverable without leaving the list. Reviewers consistently frame it as "a clean list of links in three minutes" (Linkero). Justin's editor already mirrors this shape (sidebar pages list, phone/desktop preview toggle).
- Beacons: add-block modal as the product tour. The + Add Block modal is a categorized gallery (content blocks, audience-building blocks, monetization blocks) with visual previews; the block catalog itself teaches users what the platform can do. Downside per reviewers: the do-it-all UI feels cluttered and has a steeper learning curve; individual features feel less polished than dedicated tools (taap.bio).
- Theme galleries beat knob-twiddling. Both lead with one-click theme presets (Linktree themes + palettes; Beacons template themes plus the rainbow escape hatch to full custom). Users pick a vibe first, then tweak. Justin's Links has deep knobs (7 fonts, textures, effects) but no preset gallery layer on top; that is the main editor-UX gap.
- Page conventions. Avatar + name + short bio header, 4-8 social icons, featured/hero item first, 7-10 links max with headers to chunk longer lists (Linktree link guidance), capture form mid-page, monetization near top. Mobile-first single column; Beacons adds tabs when pages get long.
- AI as onboarding accelerant. Beacons auto-populates pages from connected socials; Linktree's April 2026 AI Insights Chat sits on the analytics side. Neither is essential parity, but auto-populating a new brand page from existing brand assets is the pattern worth stealing.
3. Stack Notes (Best Effort, Speculation Marked)¶
- Linktree serving. Marketing site is Next.js (page source exposes
marketing-website-nextjs); profile pages are React with significant client-side rendering, noted by competitors as an SEO/perf weakness (Linklay). Speculative: profile pages served via CDN-cached SSR/CSR hybrid on AWS. - Linktree data. AWS + Snowflake data pipeline (their own engineering blog covers Snowflake/AWS pipelines and a "rewrites and transitional architecture" monolith-to-services story). Amplitude for product analytics (loaded on their own pages). Blog CMS is Sanity.
- Beacons serving. Marketing site is Framer behind Cloudflare (asset paths expose
framerusercontent.comproxying; aggressive Cloudflare bot challenge). Crunchbase lists Cloudflare CDN. Speculative: app and public pages are a React SPA behind Cloudflare; no public engineering blog found. - Implication for Justin. His Worker+KV always-on edge render is architecturally ahead of Linktree's client-heavy pages for TTFB and SEO. The
request.cfobject (country, city, ASN) gives free geo analytics that Linktree charges $15/month for.

5. Prioritized Gap List (Money Paths: Email Growth + Affiliate Revenue)¶
Ordered by value for a fishing/outdoor creator. Effort: CHEAP (< a day-ish), MEDIUM, BIG. Surface: EDGE (Worker/KV/D1 change) vs CT (CreatorTrack editor/backend only).
- Lead magnet auto-delivery. Capture email, then instantly email a promised asset (lure guide PDF, spot map). Beacons treats this as a core growth block. Sketch: editor adds "deliver asset" to the email-capture block config; Worker capture handler tags the D1 row; sync path triggers a Mautic campaign email per brand segment with the asset link. CHEAP, mostly Mautic wiring + one editor field. EDGE (tiny) + CT.
- Gated links (subscribe to unlock). Linktree's lock feature, aimed straight at list growth: "unlock the secret bait list" behind an email gate. Sketch: per-link

- Geo/device analytics. Linktree charges $15/mo for this; the edge gives it free. Sketch: log

Curate 8-12 named presets per vibe (Bass Tournament, Campfire, Clean Outdoor) that set font/colors/background/texture/effects in one click, current knobs become the override layer. MEDIUM. CT only.

Not worth chasing: courses/memberships hosting, tipping, media kit builder, NFC cards, an in-house affiliate network (Justin's storefront + commission import already covers his affiliate path), and built-in bulk email UI (Mautic already beats Beacons' flaky sender).
